RA Garden Seed Share Scheme (Old)

Now is the time to please donate spare garden seeds!

Report on 2022 and update on plans for 2023

The intention
The Garden Seed Share Scheme started in March 2021. It is one of the RA’s community-enhancing initiatives to harvest and share garden seeds for free. The initiative promotes the sharing of locally harvested seeds which has positive impacts on the environment. To avoid wastage, residents are donating part-used packets of ‘bought’ seeds or unwanted free packets received as magazine offers.

Results of the scheme in 2022
The scheme expanded in 2022 and a seed box was available to choose from in the Byfleet Community Library, St Mary’s Centre for the Community in Byfleet, and in the wonderful temporary West Byfleet Library.

The scheme was invited to Wisley’s Gardening for Wellbeing Forum, to Holme Farm’s Community Workshop by the West Byfleet Gardening Group, and to St John’s Christmas Festival in West Byfleet.

Plans for the scheme in 2023
Seeds will be made available from week commencing 13th March 2023 in the same three locations mentioned above. You can donate any seeds you have spare at these locations during their opening hours or, for collection, contact vrb@the-residents.org

The 2023 seasonal relaunch will be at

  • St Mary’s Centre for the Community, Byfleet on Thursday 9th March from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • The Byfleet Community Library on Saturday 11th March from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Come and select seeds you would like for free! The scheme is available to residents of all three villages.

Our thanks to…

RHS Wisley Seed Department. We have seeds available, as part of the scheme, which RHS Wisley very kindly donated. These include unusual varieties and plants for dry gardens and well-being gardens.

Woking and District Men’s Shed. W&DMS have kindly agreed to make us wooden seed display boxes. You will be able to admire these this year when you collect your seeds!

Thank you all for your support and interest and happy growing!
