CAMPAIGN GROUP REQUESTS MEETING WITH WOKING BOROUGH COUNCIL AND MARSTON’S PLC TO RESOLVE DISPUTED WEST BYFLEET RECREATION GROUND
On 9th October we wrote a joint letter to Woking Borough Council and Marston’s plc requesting a meeting with their representatives and legal advisers about the future of the West Byfleet Recreation Ground to prevent further waste of public money and shareholder value.
Proposed parking changes were presented to the Woking Joint Committee on 20th June and are now out for consultation from 31st August to 28th September.
“The Trustees of Byfleet United Charity (BUC) have decided not to continue with the company UK Power Reserve’s proposal to build a gas powered electricity generation plant on the old landfill site at Camphill Road, West Byfleet.
“The Secretary of State appointed an Inspector to determine this matter. A Public Inquiry was held at The Council Chamber, Woking Borough Council, Civic Offices, Gloucester Square, Woking GU21 6YL on 22 May 2018. This was adjourned after one day so that new evidence could be considered. The Inquiry will recommence at the same venue at 10am on 6 February 2019 and continue until the 7 February 2019 if required.
The Byfleet, West Byfleet & Pyrford Residents’ Association (the ‘RA’) is a local community group open to residents (homeowners and tenants) and businesses operating in the three villages. We attempt to represent the interests of everyone living in our area and/or contributing to the local economy. We strive to ensure that the three villages remain attractive, prosperous, environmentally sustainable, safe and socially welcoming places in which to live.
It was formed in 1928 and has been run by volunteers continuously since then – more than 90 years of dedicated service to the residents of our villages.
Current membership represents around 30% of all households (around 2,400 homes). We have a network of 150 volunteer street representatives who keep contact with our members, deliver our newsletter and collect subscriptions (where possible). These street representatives are the life blood of the RA.
The types of issues that the RA had focussed on recently include planning, Green Belt protection and anti-social behaviour. The RA also supports local charities and has a donations policy.
Looking forward the RA would like to expand its community involvement to include health, education, and leisure facilities for young people. That is dependent on having volunteers with both an interest and a desire to become involved.
