The Byfleet, West Byfleet & Pyrford Residents’ Association (the ‘RA’) is a local community group open to residents (homeowners and tenants) and businesses operating in the three villages. We attempt to represent the interests of everyone living in our area and/or contributing to the local economy. We strive to ensure that the three villages remain attractive, prosperous, environmentally sustainable, safe and socially welcoming places in which to live.
It was formed in 1928 and has been run by volunteers continuously since then – more than 90 years of dedicated service to the residents of our villages.
Current membership represents around 30% of all households (around 2,400 homes). We have a network of 150 volunteer street representatives who keep contact with our members, deliver our newsletter and collect subscriptions (where possible). These street representatives are the life blood of the RA.
The types of issues that the RA had focussed on recently include planning, Green Belt protection and anti-social behaviour. The RA also supports local charities and has a donations policy.
Looking forward the RA would like to expand its community involvement to include health, education, and leisure facilities for young people. That is dependent on having volunteers with both an interest and a desire to become involved.
Join today and receive the next issue of our newsletter, The Resident, which is published three times a year. You will also be entitled to receive details by email of local events planned by the RA and matters of interest to local residents.

Stephen Twilley says
A big thank you to the volunteers in the RA who have compiled such a compelling statement. The arguments in respect of housing requirement numbers, gypsy sites and the green belt are particularly powerful and if ignored or dismissed out of hand will provide evidence of an utter unwillingness of “the planning system” to take into account the carefully considered assessment by the local community.
The refusal by senior executives at WBC to respond positively to valid, reasoned requests is already evidence of a dictatorial approach by organisations which – it should never be forgotten – only exist for the benefit of, and by the courtesy of, the peope who live in a neighbourhood.
The clarity of the statement’s analysis and conclusions is a very welcome contrast to the Kafkaesque material produced by WBC and the planning inspectorate!
