Anti-social behaviour by young people has recently been an issue for many of the residents and businesses in the West Byfleet area. In light of this, Councillor Gary Elson recently approached Woking Borough Council to find out what provision there is for young people in the area that can maybe get them interested and diverted away from the village centre.
While there are few or no youth groups provided by Surrey County Council in these areas, the youth offer is currently under consultation. For details about this, and to participate in the consultation exercise, please visit SCC’s website.
St Mary’s Church used to offer some youth provision, however it would appear that open access has ended due to young people no longer turning up. The group was run by volunteers on Friday evenings, and details can be found here: https://www.stmaryschurchbyfleet.org.uk/groups
The Parish of Wisley with Pyrford also has some youth provision, details of which can be found here: https://www.wisleywithpyrford.org/youth
Finally, Woking Borough Council will be offering free sports coaching sessions for young people again this year as part of the Specsavers Surrey Youth Games. WBC’s press release, together with links to the SYG, can be found here.
