We have been notified of Planning Application 2018/0645, details of which are available at the website below or directly from Woking Borough Council Planning Department.
The RA Officers have significant concerns regarding this proposal for an industrial electric generation by gas facility on the West Byfleet Industrial Estate, Camphill Road. We are concerned that this is an inappropriate development so close to residential, school, and allotment properties which could well lead to nitrogen oxides, carbon oxides and noise pollution.
West Byfleet Neighbourhood Forum members have begun distributing this flier in recent days.
We recommend that residents view the application at https://caps.woking.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?keyVal=PAK8WFRUJRS00&activeTab=summary
using the above reference, and register their objections.
We have until 24th July to lodge comments.

Having had the misfortune to live on the Runnymede side of the Basingstoke Canal in Broomfield Road during the 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s, we had to endure the (really) obnoxious smells and the noise from the former tip on this site as indeed did the residents of the Dartnell Park area.
I now live in Scotland Bridge Road and the prevailing winds will now pollute our air again. Stand next to the exhaust of your gas boiler and inhale………….Woking Council have kept this very quiet haven’t they? At the time of writing this the link above to their website in not working…I wonder why that is?

I am a resident of Broomfield Road, New Haw in the Runnymede council area.My back garden backs onto this area. I knew nothing about this power station until a lady from West Byfleet put a leaflet though my door this morning.Thank you very much for the alert. I object to the noise and smell the power station will generate .It will if built pollute the area for ever. Why build it here?We have no gas locally,or is that another secret the local councils have up their sleeves. For the gas a pipe line or Lorry transport? The site was a council tip in the past. What about the problems moving /disturbing the old tip? Some one needs to answer questions.

This is a crazy idea in such a built up area. Put it where it doesn’t affect such a huge community.
Chris says
I have just come across this and wondered if there is a meeting which will discuss the proposal?
Chris Havers says
Is there a local resident meeting about this? I will be objecting.
GR Thomas says
After prompting by Runnymede Councillor Gail Kingerley, a relative living in Broomfield Road has now received formal notification of this proposal (from Runnymede BC). He has been informed the cut off date for objections is 1/8/2018…….
Also a click on the link below will show the enormity of this development. I counted ten units/chimneys in the first picture………thirty three to go on the Camphill site!!!!!…..At least Surrey press has got hold of it now, the more publicity the better.

Is the residents association co-ordeinating any kind of campaign to object to this generator development, which is totally out of charachter with the setting they are proposing. Clearly with nearly 500 public comments on the WBC planning website, local feeling is very strong.
Is there a neighbourhood meeting being planned?
Any one leading a campaign of objection?
Have we enlisted the support of local councellors yet?
Are there any planning experts being employed to act as representation for our views to oppose?
Joan Smith says
I strongly object to proposed development no: PLAN/2018/0645 . It is far too close to residential properties and schools. The noise ,smells, pollution and traffic that such a development would create are totally unacceptable to a highly residential area. It is also contradictory to the proposed makeover of the West Byfleet shopping area for such a lot of money being poured into that development only to have business driven away by this current proposal.

A plan to expand the industrial estate on to this waste land in question was turned down nearly 30 years ago because of the land is contaminated and would represent a health hazard to residents if the spoil was removed by lorry. This is the same land we are talking about now. There are two Danger Keep Out notices erected on the land by Woking borough council. This must be a non-starter … https://heartofsurrey.wordpress.com/2018/07/18/a-power-plant-on-waste-land-in-west-byfleet-weve-been-here-before/

I am not a resident of West Byfleet but I have lived in New Haw 71 years.with reference to the above about a previous attempt tp develope the old council tip at Camphill..I remember the houses near the canal bridge being empty and due to be demolished to allow changes to the roadway to allow better access to the industrial estate.
From my memory the local news papers at that time carried a story about some E.E.C. legislation coming into effect preventing the disturbance/moving of such old rubbish tips and the would be developer of Camphill tip gave up the idea due to that legislation coming into effect.
The houses where later sold and became someones home again.
How we miss the real Local newspapers when things like these are happening.

The last Neighbour Notification letter (19th July) extends the deadline for submissions to the 9th August. Still time for those of you who haven’t yet, to object. Objections are now over 1,000 but it’s imperative there are as many as possible.

I have this morning received an e-mail from Woking B.C.planning department, informing me that the Applicant for the generators has withdrawn his Planning Application.
Lets hope this is the last we hear about it.
I would like to thank again the lady from West Byfleet with the small dog who came to Broomfield Road, New Haw,who gave me a copy of the planning notice.to enable me to object. Without your leaflet I would have known nothing about the generators until they had arrived on site.
Thank you again.
