Local furniture re-use charity, Woking Community Furniture, is celebrating 30 years of helping the local community with the launch of ambitious improvement plans.
Since its formation to help residents of five burnt-out properties in 1988, WCF has delivered to over 10,000 local households, providing much needed furniture, white goods and electrical items.
To build on this long standing service to the community, WCF now aims to develop its operations and give their 100 year old building in North Road, Maybury a much needed facelift.
They are calling on the community and local businesses for help, ideally with expertise or alternatively with funding. Initially they are looking for architects, structural engineers and builders to help turn their vision into a concrete proposal and planning application.
WCF aim to create an expanded sales area, an improved electrical testing facility and significantly extend the existing repair and refurbishment workshop. The intention is to create an eco-friendly community re-use hub, using new technology alongside extensive refurbishment of the existing building – re-use on a grand scale!
