Esso Petroleum Company, Limited (Esso) has begun a consultation process that seeks your ideas and opinions about corridor options for a replacement underground fuel pipeline.
They are looking to replace 90km of their aviation fuel pipeline that runs from Fawley Refinery near Southampton to the West London Terminal storage facility in Hounslow. Part of the pipeline has already been replaced between Hamble and Boorley Green in Hampshire. The remaining 90km due for replacement covers the area between Boorley Green and the West London Terminal storage facility.
Since the existing pipeline was built, Hampshire and Surrey have changed dramatically, and protected sites such as The South Downs National Park have been established. Esso, therefore, needs to identify a route for the replacement pipeline that will minimise interruption on local communities, but also have better environmental outcomes versus the other options considered. They are now consulting on corridor options for the replacement pipeline.
Corridor Options M and Q have implications for residents in our villages, in particular a short-term impact on Pyrford and the west of Byfleet if either is chosen.
A local public display / consultation day is due to take place on Tuesday, 27th March between 14:00 and 20:00 at St Mary’s Centre for the Community, Stream Close, Byfleet, Surrey, KT14 7LZ for residents to learn more.
